Traveling alone: How to start?

Traveling alone: How to start?

Are you tired of dreaming of traveling to some place but you never get to go because you don’t know anyone who would go with you? Do you want to start traveling alone and not stay dependent on the others will but you don’t know how to start?

No worries, you’re in the right place. One of our big goals here in Off The Beaten Path Life is to inspire you to get out and have new adventures. We know getting started is the hardest part. Maybe you are afraid you get bored and don’t enjoy yourself, or maybe you are scared something happens and you won’t have no one to help you, etc.

Not so long ago we faced the same fears and doubts, but our will to venture helped us take the first step! And because we know how hard it can be to start traveling alone we are here to get you all the motivation you need to get you on your way. Luckily for you, taking that first step is really the hardest part of travelling alone.

So, let’s get started:

You’ve been planning your dream trip in your head for a while now. You know where you want to go, you know what you’d like to do, you even imagine how cool it would be if you just grabbed your backpack and go! What an adventure, right?! But then here come the questions and fears that have been your excuse to not follow your inner will to face the world alone.

But we are here to tell you that you can do it! You can! It’s totally possible! It’s totally doable! Thousands of people are traveling alone at this very moment!!! So, why not you?

You just got to take that first step! And that first step is:

Whether it is a plane ticket, a bus ticket or a train ticket, just buy it! Once you bought it you will see that everything else will be simple because you already know in your mind that you’re going! That’s out of the way! You’re going! Yeah!!!

And with that out of the way you will start “worrying” about other things like planning your itinerary, finding accommodation, organizing your backpack so you don’t forget what’s important, etc. But that’s a walk in the park! The important thing is that you have overcome the hardest part that is deciding that you are going! Yes, you are now part of a growing community of people who are traveling alone and exploring this beautiful and big world without fear!

You don’t have to wait for a companion anymore. If there is someone who wants to share your adventures with you, that’s great! But if there is no one, no problem either!

Besides, travelling alone is an enriching, and sometimes almost spiritual, experience and everyone should try it.

There is probably just one thing that should be your foremost concern: safety.

So here are some things you should consider:

– Understand that you are more vulnerable when you are travelling alone

Do not draw attention to yourself

Book a hotel with a 24 hour desk so you can always have someone you can turn to if you need

Carry copies of your documents in different places

– Keep to public places, specially at night

– Exude confidente

Lie a little. Don’t tell strangers you’re travelling alone

– Leave a copy of your itinerary with a friend or family member and stay in touch regularly

– Most of all: Be your own best counsel – If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it!

Most of all travelling alone will help you know yourself better. But besides that when travelling alone:

– You can indulge yourself

– You can do whatever you want whenever you want

– Your mistakes are your own. There’s no blamingon the other

– Your triumphs are also your own! Be proud of yourself!

– You will understand that planning the trip is easier because you only have to please yourself

– You can make new friends (if you want)

– You will feel more confident because nothing will make you feel more capable than conquering the world on your own

You will become a better traveller because when travelling alone you will have more time to observe people and places

– You can stay within your budget

– You will find the answer to the most important question: can I live with myself?

And when you discover that the answer is “Yes!”…then my friend…”the world is your oyster!
